Abstract

Describes the development of the Child Healthcare Project, a training resource for teachers, other school staff and general audiences on common childhood health issues. Outlines the role of school nurses in promoting and using the six training packs in schools. The packs are on asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, basic resuscitation and infection control. Explains how the need for training of school staff on such issues is increasing in response to public pressure and initiatives such as the White Paper, The Health of the Nation. Concludes that the health service, working with education, may assist in the dissemination of information on these conditions to the local community.
